Chronic pain disappeared at the tomb of St. Bernadette

For twelve years I lived with fibromyalgia that no medication could touch. I had tried everything Western medicine offered, and some things it did not. As a nurse in Florence, I understood pain management, but nothing worked for my own body. During a vacation in France, my friend suggested we visit Nevers to see St. Bernadette's body. I was not expecting anything. I just thought it would be historically interesting. When I stood before her glass casket, I felt a sudden warmth spread from my chest down through my arms and legs. It was so intense I had to sit down. My friend thought I was having a medical episode. But it was the opposite. For the first time in twelve years, I felt no pain. None. That was three years ago. The pain has not returned. My rheumatologist is baffled. She keeps running tests expecting to find the fibromyalgia markers, but they are gone. I go back to Nevers every year now on the anniversary. I bring flowers and I weep with gratitude.
