Food multiplied during our parish mission in the Congo
I was leading a parish mission in a remote village outside Kinshasa. We had brought food for fifty people, but over two hundred showed up. There was no market nearby, no way to get more supplies. I was panicking. The village catechist, an elderly woman named Mama Josephine, looked at our meager supplies and said calmly, "Let us pray and then serve." She led us in a prayer to Jesus, reminding Him of the loaves and fishes. We began serving. I was ladling rice and stew from the pots, watching the levels, waiting for them to run out. They did not run out. We served every person. Many came back for seconds. When we finished, there was food left over. I checked and rechecked. We had started with enough for fifty. We had served over two hundred, with leftovers. The other missionaries saw it too. We sat in silence afterward, none of us able to speak. Mama Josephine just smiled and said, "He always provides. You just have to ask and then trust."
