Our Lady of the Rosary of San Nicolas

San Nicolas de los Arroyos, Argentina

Visionaries: Gladys Quiroga de Motta, a housewife and grandmother

Overview

The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared daily to Gladys Quiroga de Motta, an ordinary housewife, mother, and grandmother with no formal education, in the city of San Nicolas de los Arroyos, Argentina. The apparitions began on September 25, 1983, and continued for over six years, with thousands of individual apparitions. Our Lady appeared under the title of Our Lady of the Rosary and delivered messages emphasizing prayer, the Rosary, Eucharistic devotion, and family unity.

History

Gladys Quiroga de Motta was an ordinary Argentine housewife who claimed to receive daily visits from the Blessed Virgin Mary beginning in September 1983. She also reportedly received 78 messages from Jesus Christ. The apparitions drew enormous crowds to San Nicolas, and a large sanctuary was built to accommodate pilgrims. Numerous healings were documented, including the cure of a boy with a brain tumor. The local bishop opened an investigation in 1985, and Bishop Hector Sabatino Cardelli formally approved the apparitions on May 22, 2016, after decades of careful study.
