Overview

The Holy Lance, a revered Passion relic, is believed to be the spear that pierced Christ's side on the cross, a pivotal moment confirming His death and fulfilling prophecy. While multiple lances claim authenticity, the one in Vienna boasts the longest documented history, drawing pilgrims and veneration for centuries as a tangible link to Christ's sacrifice and the soldier, Longinus, who witnessed it. Its remarkable spiritual importance lies in its direct association with the Passion, symbolizing both the suffering and the divine love poured out for humanity.

History & Provenance

Several claimants exist: the lance in St. Peter's Basilica (Vatican), the lance in the Imperial Treasury in Vienna (Hofburg Palace), and the lance in Echmiadzin, Armenia. The Vienna lance has the longest documented history.

My visit to The Holy Lance

I traveled to Vatican City / Vienna specifically to see the relic of The Holy Lance. The church was beautiful, and the relic is displayed with great reverence. I prayed for healing for a family member and felt a deep sense of peace afterward.
