Budapest, Hungary
Overview

The Incorrupt Right Hand of Saint Stephen of Hungary is a profound bodily relic, miraculously preserved since his tomb was opened in 1083 for his canonization. This remarkable incorruptibility, while the rest of his body had decomposed, has made it Hungary's most sacred relic for nearly a millennium, symbolizing divine favor upon the king who Christianized his nation. Its continued veneration speaks to the enduring spiritual legacy of Saint Stephen and the miraculous power of God.

History & Provenance

When Stephen's tomb was opened in 1083 for his canonization, his right hand was found incorrupt while the rest of the body had decomposed. The Holy Right Hand has been Hungary's most sacred relic for nearly 1,000 years.

My visit to The Incorrupt Right Hand of Saint Stephen of Hungary

Visiting the relic of The Incorrupt Right Hand of Saint Stephen of Hungary was not originally on my itinerary, but a local in Budapest recommended it. I am so glad I went. The church is a hidden gem, and the relic is presented beautifully.
