Visionaries: Magdalene Kade, a bedridden woman

Overview

The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Magdalene Kade, a woman who had been bedridden for 12 years with a severe illness, in the village of Philippsdorf (now Filipov) in Bohemia. Our Lady appeared in brilliant white light and said: 'My dear child, from now on you are healed.' Magdalene was instantly and completely cured, rising from her bed for the first time in over a decade.

History

On January 13, 1866, Magdalene Kade, who had suffered from a debilitating illness for 12 years and was confined to her bed, saw the Blessed Virgin Mary appear in her room surrounded by brilliant light. Mary spoke the words of healing, and Magdalene was instantly cured. She rose from her bed and walked, to the astonishment of her family and neighbors. The miraculous healing was investigated by Church authorities and medical professionals. A chapel was built on the site, which was later expanded into a basilica. The shrine became one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Bohemia.

My visit to Our Lady Help of Christians (Philippsdorf)

My pilgrimage to Our Lady Help of Christians (Philippsdorf) in Filipov (Philippsdorf) was a turning point in my spiritual life. I went expecting a nice trip and came home with a renewed faith. The other pilgrims I met there became friends, and we still keep in touch.
