History & Provenance

Brought to Bruges by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders, after the Second Crusade in 1150. The relic is venerated annually during the Procession of the Holy Blood, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage event.

Seeing the relic of The Holy Blood of Bruges in Bruges was an experience I will carry with me always. The church housing it has such a rich history. I was struck by how many people still come to venerate this relic after so many centuries.
