The Sudarium of Oviedo is a revered bloodstained cloth, believed to be the cloth that covered Christ's head after His death, as referenced in the Gospel of John. Its remarkable journey from Jerusalem to Oviedo, Spain, where it has been venerated for over a millennium, underscores its profound spiritual significance as a tangible link to the Passion of Our Lord. This Acheiropoieton, or "not made by human hands" relic, invites contemplation of Christ's sacrifice and resurrection.
Tradition traces it from Jerusalem through North Africa to Spain in the 7th century. It has been kept in the Cámara Santa of Oviedo Cathedral since at least the 8th century.
The relic of The Sudarium of Oviedo in Oviedo is housed in a stunning church. What moved me most was seeing other pilgrims there, some who had traveled even farther than I had. We are all connected by this shared faith.
